DIY Tie Dye Patterns

Have you ever worn a tie dye shirt or shorts? I’m willing to bet that you probably have.

Have you ever made your own tie dye clothes? I remember being taught diy tie dye patterns in Girl Scouts. My shirt didn’t come out as good as I wanted, but a lot of girls ended up with some really cute shirts.

I never did my own clothes after that. I did buy a lot of them through the years though. If you ever go to Joe’s Crab Shack (one of my favorite places to eat), they usually have really cute shirts there.

I also found a place in downtown Branson that had some cute shirts. There are places all over where you can buy tie dye apparel.

My daughter recently bought a tie dye shirt when we went to Southern Alabama. It got me thinking about making this one of her projects for school this year. She’s attending public school at home, so I’ve been trying to think of some fun things to do.

Tie Dye Kits

I’ve always wanted to try tie dyeing again, but after messing up my shirt in Girl Scouts, I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of money on something, just to have it turn out not looking quite like I had envisioned in my head.

I started looking around and found that tie dye kits are not very expensive at all. I found one kit that can dye 6 shirts. I babysit 3 of my grand babies and that would be enough for them to join in and do it with us as well.

It’s been a few years since I’ve worn tie dye shirts. I used to wear them all the time. I’m sure I will find other “excuses” to buy more dye and more items to put the colors into.

I actually just thought of a good excuse!

Tie Dye Party

My daughter and a lot of her friends have started dyeing their hair different colors, so we could have a tie dye birthday party. She can invite her friends over and everyone can dye their clothes to match their hair. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Oh, and a Christmas tie dye party! We could do that too! I have 6 grandbabies who I’m sure would have a blast doing this together. They have very vivid imaginations and would probably do a great job on some shirts.

I mean, who doesn’t like the idea of tie dye though? It’s made quite the comeback. It’s everywhere these days!

Selling Tie Dye Apparel

Yes, I could possibly sell tie dye apparel too. Am I getting carried away? Maybe…or maybe not. We have a flea market fairly close to us where I could take my tie dye items and sell them.

I could even set up an area to sell the clothes to dye and let people tie dye them right there, then take their masterpieces home with them.

If it doesn’t work out, I can just make sure that I only have items that will fit my family and myself at first, then I’ll have something to give away as presents, lol.

Where to Find Tie Dye Instructions

Believe it or not, there are several instructional videos on making tie dye clothes and other items. Instructions are everywhere. We just have to find them. I usually Google or find videos on YouTube. I can usually find the information I need from them. Google Search and YouTube are your friends.

Having been born in the 60’s, you would think that I would know all about the art of tie dying. Sadly though, I wasn’t a teen (wearing clothes that I picked out) until the late 70’s. I didn’t see a lot of that type of clothing by then.

The crowd that I hung out with wore Levi’s from head to toe, and so did I. For a couple of years, you didn’t see me in anything but that. I started wearing tie dye again once I hit my 20’s.

Now that I’m getting older and more nostalgic, I’ve caught myself wanting to go back in time and try some of the fun clothes that I saw everyone else wearing

I will see what I can find on YouTube, but I also found some fairly decent priced videos that can be purchased online.

Help with Ideas

I would love to hear from some of you, so if you know of any fun ideas to use tie dye for, or if you know of any cool tie dye patterns you would like to share, I would love to hear about them in the comments.

Life is too short. Let’s have fun while we’re here.
